Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson have secured ice dance bronze at the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

The Britons had been chasing a first major title after finishing second at the past two Europeans, and were third after Friday’s rhythm dance.

Their free dance programme on Saturday put them into the lead with an overall score of 206.02 with two pairs remaining but France’s Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud scored a season’s best in the free dance to finish on 206.76 and push the Britons down into silver.

That put the pressure on the final pair, two-time defending champions Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy.

But they put on a superb display for an overall score of 212.12 to make it three wins in a row.

Fear and Gibson will now set their sights on the United States, and March’s World Championships in Boston.
