Fans of The Bay are clamouring for a new character to make an exit after the shocking car crash that left DI Anthony Manning fighting for his life.

In the gripping opening of Monday night’s episode (March 10), audiences were on edge as they witnessed the dire aftermath of DI Manning’s accident, which saw him hospitalised in a critical state.

Despite the grim situation, the police force at Morecambe Bay had their hands full with an unsolved murder case. But just minutes into the show, with DI Manning incapacitated, DI Josephine Hardy stepped in to fill his shoes.

Her icy demeanour, however, didn’t sit well with viewers, prompting a flurry of pleas for her departure on social media platform X.

Another was more direct, stating, “Don’t like her! Be gone now, thanks.”, reports the Mirror.

A third fan expressed a longing for the familiar face: “We want DI Tony Manning back. The main big boss.”

Another added their voice to the chorus of disapproval: “DCI Josephine Hardy’s attitude has made the atmosphere at MIU go down like a lead balloon.”

As the episode drew to a close, the audience also saw DS Jenn Townsend struggle emotionally under the weight of family pressures and her boss’s hospitalisation.

While the drama escalated on screen, fans couldn’t resist praising the creators of the series, with some confessing they had already binge-watched the entire season.

One ecstatic viewer exclaimed: “Name me a better team than The Bay team, it’s the perfect drama! Absolutely binged it! @daraghcarville thank you for bringing us more of what we love! @_DanielRyan nearly had me thinking Tony was a goner, please don’t #TheBay @TallStoryPicsuk.”
