Windsor police swarm west-end plant after firearm call, find “nothing suspicious”

A report of a person armed with a shotgun Monday afternoon triggered a heavy police presence at a commercial plant in Windsor’s west end.

A spokesperson for Windsor police said that “nothing suspicious” was found after an initial investigation.

After receiving reports of an armed individual shortly after 1:30 p.m., approximately 20 responding Windsor police units surrounded Canadian Electro Coating, an automotive tool & die plant located in the 900 block of Prince Road.

Armed members of the emergency services unit were also on site.

The police spokesperson said responding emergency services officers immediately conducted a thorough search of the area, but found no threat.

Police were still stationed at the building after 3 p.m.

Windsor police said the investigation remains ongoing.

There is no threat to the public. Police are asking motorists to take alternative routes due to congestion in the area.
